A friendly cosy pub dating back to 1883 sits in the heart of Battersea opposite the new Battersea Power Station Station on the Northern Line and up the road from Battersea Dog’s Home, so a dog friendly pub too!
Following a recent refurbishment, the pub’s walls are laced in beautiful flowers, and their gorgeous, sunny garden at the rear plus terrace at the front s0 the perfect place in the Summer to enjoy the weather or in the colder months, sit under a heater and enjoy a glass of wine. Our pub has UHD screens with a multi screen wall and three sound zones.
Starting with breakfast daily we also serve a mouth watering menu serves up an array of traditional pub grub with an American twist where you can opt for homemade smashed beef burgers, nachos, and freshly battered fish and chips. Whilst munching on our kitchen selection, you can drink from a selection of draught ales, lagers, spirits, wines and jugs of cocktails.
The site where the Duchess stands was originally a Public House called the Duchess of York built in 1789 to commemorate the marriage of the Duke of York to Princess Frederica Charlotte of Prussia which took place in 1791. It was one of several builds begun in 1789 by Lovell & Peecock as part of the Nine Elms development. The book ‘The Metamorphosis of Battersea’ by Keith Alan Bailey mentions he pub being the venue for the auction of lands around thea held in May 1819. The original pub was demolished in 1883 to make way for the current building and there have been numerous mentions of the pub in the Census over the years.
